Mera Peak is the Nepal’s highest climbing peaks that offer thrilling climbing experience inside Everest and Khumbu region. Even though Mera Peak is the highest climbing peak of Nepal, it is comparatively easy and smooth while summiting. Therefore, it makes Mera Peak Climbing the best option for all those adventure lovers with the good level of physical fitness and even less climbing experience. Get an awesome view of panoramic grand Himalayas including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, Kanchenjunga and other neighboring peaks.
Initially, we board a scenic flight to Lukla and in place of heading towards Namche Bazar, main trekking trail of Everest region, we move east towards Hinku valley.
Walking through lush green forests, and meadows, following quite good paths with some steep ascends and descends till Khare. Further we continue our trekking for next couple of days to arrive at Mera la. Now it would be a wonderful opportunity to walk along the glaciers and finally we will be summiting Mera Peak after two days.
Walking along the Mera glacier would bring us enough experience needed for summiting Mera Peak. And our Mera Peak climbing itinerary is professionally designed with proper acclimatization and rest days with climb high, sleep low rule to ensure successful summiting of Mera Peak.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by our staff with warm welcome and transfer to respective hotels with briefing regarding Mera Peak climbing, hotels, lodge on route with do and don’ts with evening group welcome dinner.
Day 02: Fly to Lukla 2,830 m & Trek to Chhuthang 3,020 m - 05 hrs.
Mornings, flight to Lukla with views of mountain range, after 30 mins of great flight reaching Lukla. From Lukla we start our trek heading east into the thick forest on the hillside below the Kalo Himal ridge. There are several trails that heads away from the main trail on this section, so sticking to the group is the best option before arriving at Chhutang.
Day 03: Trek from Chhuthang to Tuli Kharka 4,100 m via Zatrawala Pass 4,600 m - 06 hrs.
Leaving Chhutang we will follow the trail that is a gradual ascent which steepens as we head towards the crossing of Zatrawala Pass at 4600 meters. Our tiring climb to the top of the pass is rewarded with magnificent views of Numbur Himal, Kongdi Ri, Karyolang Peak and other surrounding peaks. Our trek goes along a leveled path for almost two hours before descending all the way to Tuli Kharka.
Day 04: Trek from Tuli Kharka to Kothe 4,182 m - 06 hrs.
From Tuli Kharka our trail is a mixture of both uphill and downhill trekking through dense forest filled of rhododendron, oak, pine and juniper trees. During our trek today we will have magnificent views of Mera Peak and surrounding snow capped peaks. A steep descent to the Hinku River and a final uphill climb will lead us to Kothe. Kothe lies to the west side of the Hinku valley and offers serene wilderness with lush vegetation to trekkers.
Day 05: Trek from Kothe to Thangnak 4,326 m -05 hrs.
Our trail from Kothe goes along the ridge of Hinku river towards Gondishung. Further trekking we will pass through Lungsumgba Gompa which was built approximately 200 years ago. Here we can find Mera Peak along with its route scripted in rock which is a fantastic piece of rock carving architecture. Our trek continues with a rather easy walking trail that leads to the summer grazing area of Thangnak where there are shops and number of good tea houses.
Day 06: Trek from Thangnak to Khare 5,100 m - 06 hrs.
Our Journey from Thangnak goes over the lateral moraine towards hinku NUp and Shar Glaciers. From there our further trekking is a steep climb all the way to Khare. We will have magnificent view of Northern Face of Mera Peak from Khare. Besides, Khare offers a number of good hikes for exploration and acclimatization.
Day 07: Acclimatization at Khare.
Acclimatization is very essential in higher altitudes to avoid mental and physical sickness. By now, we are above 5000 meters altitude, we will spend a rest day at Khare for acclimatization and exploration. Proper acclimatization is a must for ensuring our successful summit climb of Mera Peak. Our Sherpa will check our health conditions to make sure that everyone is fit for the main summit climb. They will also make necessary checks on climbing gears such as crampons, ice axes, harness and other equipments.
Day 08: Trek to Mera Base Camp 5,300 m - 04 hrs.
Leaving Khare, we start our short but technically demanding trek towards Mera Peak Base Camp. Our trail is a gradual ascend over to Mera Glacier. We will climb steeply towards the top of the glacier before traversing along the glacier to finally arrive at Mera Peak Base Camp. Once at the base camp our Sherpa crew will quickly set up the camp and make necessary preparations for further trekking.
Day 09: Trek to Mera Base Camp 5,700 m - 04 hrs.
Leaving the base camp we will follow the trail that climbs over through Mera La Pass and continue trekking along rocky and often snow covered trail towards Mera Peak High Camp. Once at the high camp our Sherpa crew will quickly set up the camps and make necessary checks on our health conditions and climbing gears. From the high camp, we can enjoy amazing views of Everest, Makalu, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, Baruntse and Chamlang.
Day 10: Climb to Mera Peak summit 6,461 m & descend to Khare.
Today is the day we all have been desperately waiting for. Properly equipped and fully acclimatized we start early with the aim to reach the summit before noon. Strong winds after midday can create obstacles in reaching the summit. We start around 2 in the morning and after having breakfast we climb up the glacier and onto a ridge. Following the footsteps and guidance of our experienced climbing expert, we head towards Mera Peak summit. Once at the top we are rewarded with magnificent views of five spectacular 8,000 meter peaks – Everest 8,848 m, Cho Oyu 8,201 m, Makalu 8,463 m, Kanchenjunga 8,586 m as well as Nuptse 7,855 m and Chamlang 7,319 m. After spending quality time at the Mera Peak summit we will descend following the same route and head back to reach Khare for our overnight stay.
Day 11: Reserve day in case of bad weather.
It might happen that we may not reach the summit as we planned due to bad or unfavorable weather conditions. Our main target is to successfully lead you to the summit of Mera Peak. Thus, we will spare a reserve day in case of bad weather or other unwanted situations. However, if everything goes smoothly, we can use this day to trek back on leisure.
Day 12: Trek back from Khare to Kothe - 06 hrs.
After having achieved our target – summit of Mera Peak, we will retrace our steps from Khare and pass through Thangnak before heading further towards Kothe. With mostly downhill trekking, we will leave the high altitudes and enter into the dense sub-tropical forest filled with rhododendron, oak, pine and birch trees. We trek until we arrive at Kothe.
Day 13: Trek from Kothe to Tuli Kharka - 06 hrs.
Leaving Kothe, our trail is an uphill trekking through dense rhododendron forest that goes over the western section of Hinku valley towards Tuli Kharka. From Tuli Kharka we can enjoy the magnificent views of Mera North, Mera Central and South face of Mera Peak.
Day 14: Trek from Tuli Kharka to Lukla via Zatrawala Pass - 06 hrs.
From Tuli Kharka we will ascend for the crossing of Zatrawala Pass and from the top of the pass we descend to finally arrive back to Lukla. In the evening we will celebrate together with our crew for successful Mera Peak Climbing.
Day 15: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
From Lukla taking an early morning flight back to Kathmandu with views of mountains, at Kathmandu domestic airport our staff transfers you back to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure.
Day 16: In Kathmandu free day with sightseeing tour.
A spare day in Kathmandu in case of flight delay and cancellation due to unfavorable bad weather which might occur, as the Himalayan weather can be unpredictable sometimes if all goes well have a free day or sightseeing tour of Kathmandu-Patan and Bhaktapur.
Day 17: International departure homeward bound.
Today, your last day in amazing Nepal with great experience and fond memories of Mera Peak Climbing, as per your time for international flight, our staff transfer you to airport for your final departure homeward bound or to your next destinations.
